MSU junior golfer Jack Newman opens play in the first round of the Masters is in Augusta, Ga., which begins today.
On Tuesday, the pairings were announced for the first two days of the tournament. Newman will be playing with PGA Tour veterans Rocco Mediate and Fred Couples.
The group will take the course at 12:02 p.m. today and 8:55 a.m. Friday.
Newman is the first Spartan to compete in the Masters. He qualified for the tournament by winning the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in July.
Mediate’s best major finish came in the 2008 U.S. Open when he tied Tiger Woods through an 18-hole playoff but eventually fell in the first hole of sudden death, earning a second place finish.
Couples has been a long-standing member on the Tour and won the 1992 Masters.
