Lent article had inaccuracies regarding religious holiday

I am writing about the Lent article that Kate Jacobson wrote titled Students find new approach to Lent (SN 2/25).

In the article, she stated that Lent is a religious observance of Jesus fasting for 40 days before his crucifixion. That is absolutely not correct.

Lent is an observation of the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert fasting and resisting the devil’s temptations before he began his ministry.

The number 40 is many places in the Bible, but to the best of my knowledge, nowhere near anything about Jesus fasting for 40 days before his crucifixion.

I am no Bible-thumping zealot, but I think you should get your facts straight before you print an article, and I have no idea where she got her information.

I think you should print a correction, or Mel Gibson and the Pope might have to get involved and then you’ll have a God storm on your hands.
