Tuesday is Spay Day USA, the Humane Society of the United States’ celebration of keeping pets healthy.
In honor of the holiday, the Capital Area Human Society, 7095 W. Grand River Ave., in Lansing, is offering new adopters a chance to win a complete pet package, with a new pet bed, toys, bowls and food.
All humane society animals are spayed or neutered before being adopted.
Spaying and neutering helps prevent ovarian, uterine, testicular and prostate cancer in pets. The procedures also can expand the life spans of dogs by one to three years and of cats by three to five years. More than four million homeless pets are euthanized in the United States each year due to overpopulation, a problem that can be solved by spaying and neutering.
