As President Obama was sworn in and millions around the world witnessed history, members of the MSU community celebrated the event around campus.
Students gathered and watched the events on TV in the International Center and hundreds of MSU faculty, staff and students crowded the MSU Union Ballroom to view the inauguration on a projection screen.
“The range of emotions went from absolute joy to deep reflection, laughter to tears,” said Paulette Granberry Russell, director of the Office of Inclusion, which hosted the event.
At Holden Hall, members of the MSU College Democrats who didn’t go to Washington, D.C., joined to celebrate together.
“The campaign was about coming together as a community and working together for a common purpose, and I guess it’s just kind of a good way to celebrate our efforts,” said Joe Duffy, a music education and James Madison freshman. “It was a way to watch with the people we worked with to do whatever we could to ensure the election of Barack Obama.”
