Prognosticators

Gene Washington

No. 18 MSU vs. Purdue

TV: Big Ten Network, Noon

CK: Despite laying a giant egg last week, the Spartans somehow, some way found a way to win. This week, MSU will come out excited for the seniors’ last game at Spartan Stadium. Quarterback Brian Hoyer, running back Javon Ringer and free safety Otis Wiley will all do their thing, but the highlight reel moment will come when defensive tackle Justin Kershaw recovers a fumble in the red zone and rumbles all the way to paydirt for a touchdown.

MSU 38, Purdue 20

JC: If the disastrous Michigan offense can put up 42 points against the Purdue defense, what kind of damage can the MSU attack do? I’m no math major, but I think I might need a pen and paper to figure this out. Let’s see, four plus eight is 12, carry the one, six plus nine plus one is 16, carry the one again … I might need a bigger piece of paper here.

MSU 52, Purdue 28

AA: Much like MSU last year, Purdue desperately needs a win in this matchup to keep its bowl dreams alive. As such, fully expect eccentric head coach Joe Tiller to bring his crazy bag of tricks to East Lansing and unleash a blitz of gadget plays at the Spartans defense. Purdue’s spread offense is good for a few scores, but it won’t be enough. Senior captains Brian Hoyer and Javon Ringer combine for five touchdowns and MSU prevails on Senior Day.

MSU 42, Purdue 21

GW: I think that knowing how important the game is in terms of the race for the Big Ten championship and that we play Penn State next, I think the urgency will be there.

MSU 27, Purdue 14

Iowa vs. No. 3 Penn State

TV: ABC , 3:30 p.m.

CK: No matter what, Penn State is going to win this game. I just can’t decide if it’s going to be a blowout or a close, physical game. Iowa running back Shonn Greene will pick up his tenth 100-yard game, but I’m going with the first option as JoePa’s crew moves up to No. 2 in the BCS polls following a Texas Tech loss to Oklahoma State.

Penn State 35, Iowa 17

JC: Joe Paterno is so old. How old is he? Joe Paterno is so old that his birth certificate says expired on it. He’s so old, his social security number is three. He’s so old, he knew the Burger King when he was a prince. He’s so old that there was no history class when he was in school. (We pick Penn State to win every week, it’s all there is left to talk about.)

Penn State 27, Iowa 10

AA: Penn State has a clear physical advantage in this matchup, but Iowa is no slouch. Just ask any of MSU’s players: Iowa is a tough, tough football team that will hit you in the mouth if you don’t match its intensity. Iowa running back Shonn Greene has rushed for 100 yards every game this season, and will continue to impose his will on opposing front sevens in this game. Iowa shocks the world by hanging close, but nicked-up Penn State quarterback Darryl Clark rallies his troops to preserve the Nittany Lions’ perfect season.

Penn State 24, Iowa 17

GW: I just think (Penn State head coach Joe) Paterno is an excellent coach and it’s tough playing on the road, but looking at the significance in where he is in the championship race, he’ll still get his team ready.

Penn State 23, Iowa 14
