Stretch before a workout. Regular stretching maintains flexibility, helps prevent muscle strain and may help reduce injuries.
Increase workout intensity gradually.
Take a 10-minute gradual cool-down after a vigorous workout – don’t just stop abruptly. Walking for 10 minutes after a long run helps redistribute blood and prevents stiffness.
Replace running shoes regularly, since a shoe’s shock absorbency may be inadequate after 350-500 miles. People who run 20 miles a week should replace their shoes every four to six months.
Establish a regular sleep pattern with at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night.
Weight train for no longer than 20 minutes each day and work a different area of the body on different days.
Avoid carbonated beverages high in sugar and low in nutritional value, such as sodas.
If your pulse in the morning is higher than normal, you feel fatigued and you don’t look forward to your workout, you may be overtraining. Consider cutting back for a week to see if it helps.
Make sure you’re eating healthy, but don’t completely cut fats out of your diet. Instead, choose “healthy” fats such as unsaturated fats and Omega fatty acids.
