Sexual conduct trial postponed

September 2, 2008

The trial for Nigel Scarlett, ASMSU’s former Student Assembly vice chairperson for external affairs, was postponed Tuesday and has yet to be rescheduled.

Scarlett is being charged in the Ingham County Circuit Court with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with a reported sexual assault on campus Feb. 24.

Third-degree criminal sexual conduct is a felony classified as sexual penetration when the defendant knows or has reason to know the victim is physically helpless. If convicted, Scarlett could face 15 years in prison.
