A police cruiser caught fire shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday in front of the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing, where Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was set to make a speech.
The fire was caused by a mechanical problem after the vehicle was parked, said Lansing police Lt. David Nosotti. No one was in the car and no one was injured. Rifle rounds in the vehicle discharged due to the high heat but because they weren’t in the barrel they did not project the bullets.
