Freshman Roe undergoes knee surgery

August 5, 2008

MSU freshman forward Delvon Roe underwent successful exploratory surgery on his left knee on Tuesday, according to MSU Athletic Communications.

Doctors removed small particles of cartilage from Roe’s knee, and he is expected to return to the court in approximately six weeks.

“I couldn’t be more ecstatic about the news. While this is a minor setback for Delvon, we are glad that he will be able to return to action by the time practice starts in mid-October,” said MSU head coach Tom Izzo in a press release. “I am confident that he has the work ethic and dedication needed for a successful rehab.”

Roe was taking it easy on his knee all summer due to a prior knee surgery in December which caused him to sit on the bench for his entire senior season. When swelling occurred last week, the MSU medical staff decided exploratory surgery was necessary for the 2008 Rivals.com five-star recruit.
