Members of Alpha Epsilon Pi still do not have a permanent place to live as the house they were hoping to inhabit, 1148 E. Grand River Ave., remains without a rental license.
The fraternity is leasing the house from the Beta Tau Corp., and it was previously occupied by the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. The house has been vacant since December 2006.
The house must be rezoned before members may occupy it, because the land was redistricted when the city began plans for the East Village project.
The East Lansing Housing Commission postponed its decision on Thursday to recommend the license to the East Lansing City Council.
The Housing Commission needs to wait for the Zoning Board of Appeals to make a decision Sept. 3 before moving ahead.
Not having a permanent house has been tough for the fraternity, said Scott Gordon, the fraternity’s president.
“We moved into a temporary house, and we’ve just been trying to stay strong and confident and make sure we can still be a fraternity,” he said.
