Road opens earlier than expected

The Abbot/Chandler road reconstruction project was completed ahead of schedule, as both the northbound and southbound lanes opened to traffic Wednesday afternoon, according to a city of East Lansing press release.

The project, which began in January and was originally scheduled to be completed in October, covers about one mile between Lake Lansing and Coleman roads. It includes additional traffic and turn lanes, a new median and eight-foot pedestrian pathways.

Despite the road’s opening, the East Lansing Department of Public Works expects intermittent closures throughout the next month for finishing work on the project.
