Bike thief caught in act at Chemistry Building

A 24-year-old male with no university affiliation had his plans to steal a bike cut short when the owner caught him in the act Wednesday at 4 p.m., MSU police Sgt. Randy Holton said.

The suspect, who was in the midst of cutting a lock off of a Nirve bike in front of the Chemistry Building, was confronted when the owner of the bike walked outside and witnessed the attempted larceny, Holton said.

When the complainant, a 22-year-old student, approached the suspect, the man took off running. The victim then called the police and followed the suspect on foot.

Police caught up with the suspect and arrested him outside of the MSU College of Law, Holton said. The bike, which was unharmed aside from the lock, is estimated to be worth $220.
