The State News caught up with journalism senior Zach McCune on Sunday to learn about his eccentric fashion style. McCune, who’s been creative with his wardrobe since high school, likes to stay easygoing when it comes to what he wears. McCune has found a way to avoid large outlets but still accentuate his style with his emotions.
The State News How would you describe your style?
Zach McCune I suppose I would describe it as economical, goofy and comfortable.
SN Where do you get most of your clothing and accessories?
ZM Actually, everything I’m wearing was purchased at Volunteers of America. So for the most part, thrift stores and things of that nature.
SN Why do you shop there?
ZM Because you never know what you’re going to find. Sometimes there will be nothing, sometimes you can find a golden nugget of clothing glory. And it’s an extremely low price. I would estimate that the grand total of all the clothing articles on my person at the moment would probably be under $10, and that is nice.
SN How do you put together a daily outfit?
ZM A lot of plain solid colors that will compliment each other well without putting too much thought into it. I guess a first-instinct grab from the closet.
SN Is matching vital to you?
ZM To a certain degree, yes. Anything that can sort of reflect a mood. If I’m feeling jubilant, I would like to have a cornucopia of colors at my disposal, and if it’s perhaps a blustery autumn day, I would like to drape myself in perhaps a flannel and maybe a good pair of jeans.
SN What is your favorite accessory or piece of clothing?
ZM I have a really enjoyable woolen flannel, which I also procured from Volunteers of America. It’s not really that universally acceptable I guess with weather, but when in season, it’s kind of like a warm, fuzzy, cosmic blanket, because comfort is crucial.
