Resident acquitted in one-day Cedar Fest trial

June 18, 2008

Robert Kensicki was acquitted of three misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges on Tuesday in relation to the Cedar Fest riots.

Kensicki, 22,has no university affiliation, and was accused of drunk and disorderly conduct, throwing or propelling a missile and assembling for a riot. He was acquitted after a one-day jury trial before 54B District Judge David Jordan.

“There was not enough evidence that Mr. Kensicki threw an object at the officers in attendance that night, nor did he do anything to enhance the riots,” said Defense attorney Karen Phillips of the Nichols Law Firm.

Kensicki, she said, is now living in East Lansing, but was just visiting at the time the riots took place.

“In this case justice has prevailed, and we are quite happy with the results,” Phillips said.

Messages to prosecuting attorney David Meyers Wednesday were not returned.
