Freshman fifteen Q's

Melanie Swenson

College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or less, at a new face on campus and her perspective on her new frontier.

Meet Melanie Swenson

1. What is your major?

Supply chain management

2. Where is your favorite place to party on campus?

In the dorms. Emmons Hall is pretty fun.

3. What is the last song you listened to on your iPod?

John Mayer’s ‘83’

4. What’s the best part about being in college?

No rules and being on my own time. Freedom. No parents.

5. Favorite way to get around on campus?

If I could drive here I would. I like the buses when they’re on time. When it’s nice out, it’s nice to walk.

6. When was the last time you exercised?

Yesterday. I did weights, elliptical and stretching.

7. What did you eat for lunch?

Fries, steamed carrots, two chocolate chip cookies and some vegetable soup.

8. What is your favorite TV show?

‘American Idol.’ I’ve never been into it before this season.

9. Where are you living next year?

Campbell Hall in a single. I figured out this year that I need all that room.

10. Any summer plans?

Working, summer school and maybe a vacation.

11. What’s the last thing you Googled?

Hairstyles. I’m thinking about cutting my hair.

12. What fictional character do you associate with the most?

Goofy because he’s always telling jokes and goofing off.

13. What are your words to live by?

Those who matter don’t mind, and those who mind don’t matter.

14. Favorite movie quote?*

‘I wanna be on you’ from ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.’ It’s not really my favorite, but it’s funny.

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

Australia. I eventually want to see the whole world. Australia would be cool, though, because it’s similar to here but it’s also different. I like it because the culture seems really relaxed.
