Thomas' tendencies beyond the hardwood

March 26, 2008

Thomas

The State News caught up with freshman guard Brittney Thomas to find out how she got involved with basketball and what she’s like off the court.

From country music to comedy, this Spartan is full of surprises.

State News: Do you have any pregame rituals?

Brittney Thomas: No, but at halftime I don’t like to shoot because if I shoot good then I think I’m wasting it and if I shoot bad then, you know, you just don’t feel good and then you start to have a bad game.

SN: If playing basketball wasn’t an option, what other sport would you play?

BT: Volleyball. I love volleyball. I miss it already.

SN: What’s the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?

BT: When I was playing basketball when I was about 10, I was wearing warm-up pants because I was still cold. I was running for a fast break and I was ahead of everyone, and (my pants) fell. They passed me the basketball and I couldn’t move because I would’ve tripped and traveled, so I had to wait for everyone to come back down (the court). It was really embarrassing.

SN: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

BT: I’m really goofy and I have standup comedy on my iPod — Dane Cook, Wanda Sykes, Katt Williams, Gabrielle Iglesias.

SN: What kind of music do you listen to?

BT: I listen to everything except for heavy metal. I think people are surprised because I have a good amount of country. I like it.

I’m really feeling Gretchen Wilson right now.

SN: How would you describe yourself outside of basketball?

BT: I’m really laid back. I kind of just go with the punches and, like I said, I’m just goofy and friendly.
