SN style

March 27, 2008

“You get a lot of variety in thrift stores,” psychology freshman Sheila Trammel said. “Patterns are the first thing I look at.” Trammel chooses a lot of bright-colored patterns from thrift stores.

Although some MSU students might throw on sweats every day, psychology freshman Sheila Trammel uses her diverse style to express herself.

The State News: What are you wearing?

Sheila Trammel: I’m wearing a cream skirt, pink tank top, black sweatshirt and black tights from a bunch of different places. Most of it is from the Salvation Army and there’s a few things from Target.

SN: How would you describe your style?

ST: I would describe it as eclectic and innovative. I just piece things together that I find at thrift stores, mostly.

SN: Who or what influences your style?

ST: Honestly, nobody really influences me. If I see something that I like, I’ll buy it. I don’t have any main influences; it’s just my tastes.

SN: How’d you develop your tastes?

ST: Previous styles, previous things that have been in style like the ’80s or ’70s — like a past generation that I take different things from each one.

SN: What made you start thinking about your style?

ST: I just walked into a thrift store one day and I was like, “This is pretty, this is cool,” and then I started putting together outfits that way.

SN: What’s your favorite part of your outfit?

ST: Probably the sweater, it’s from Swiss Army and it has a globe on it and it says something about harmony and how we should all be in harmony together.

SN: What advice do you have for people who want to start thinking about their style?

ST: Just be yourself, don’t follow main trends, don’t buy from stores like Hollister and stuff that just makes a bunch of the same colored T-shirt with their logo on it. You need be more creative and just go with what you like (instead of) what society likes.
