The State News: What are you wearing?

Ariel Sammone: A black jacket with ruffles on the back — I’m not really sure from where. A white blouse with pleats on the front and a thin, red tie from Goodwill.

Also, a a big, puffy skirt completely made of tulle. It’s ballerina-esque, but more choppy. Also, I have on fishnets and Converse-style boots. They’re not really Converse, though — I got them from a seller in Hong Kong. And of course, my signature pair of kitty ears.

SN: What’s your favorite part of your outfit?

AS: My skirt. It’s super fun to wear. It makes me feel like a princess, sort of.

SN: How would you describe your look?

AS: Dark, definitely. I’m inspired by Tokyo street fashion. As a whole, it’s kind of Japanese Gothic Lolita schoolgirl.

SN: What do you convey through your clothing?

AS: Refuse to be Usual (a store in Hong Kong) is actually my favorite place to shop. It (embodies the) whole message, just stand out.

SN: What inspires you?

AS: I do a lot of research online, obviously, because I’m not in Tokyo and I’m not going to be soon. There’s a magazine called Fruits and they feature a lot of stuff I really like.

SN: What fashion advice would you give someone?

AS: You can never have too many accessories.
