Native Writers Conference begins

March 12, 2008

The American Indian Studies Program will co-sponsor its Returning the Gift: Native Writers Conference today through Saturday at the Union.

The conference features 24 workshop presenters, seven of whom are affiliated with MSU.

Many presenters conduct writing and thinking events and share their own work, said Susan Krouse, the program’s director.

“Many of the speakers presenting are people who originally came to a conference and said ‘Wow, I can do this,’” she said.

Krouse said the program staff is working to provide networking opportunities to aspiring writers.

“This has been a conference that, over the years, has been helpful to aspiring native writers and people who are trying to find their voice as writers,” she said.
