Freshmen fifteen Q's

Danielle Parlapiano

College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or fewer, at a new face on campus and her perspective on her new frontier.

Meet Danielle Parlapiano

1. What’s your major?
It’s (premedical) right now.

2. What is your favorite spot on MSU’s campus?
I really like walking up and down the Red Cedar behind IM Circle, it’s really pretty back there.

3. Name your top five favorite songs right now.
“The Church Channel” by Say Anything, “Chain Me Free” by The Matches, “Mirrors” by Envy on the Coast, “Approach the Bench” by The Audition, “The Lights and Buzz” by Jack’s Mannequin.

4. What movie best do you think describes your life and why?
This is going to sound really corny, but “Over the Hedge.” It’s about a bunch of friends going on adventures and crazy things. That’s what happens when you have a little brother who’s six.

5. What is your least favorite thing about living away from home?
I really don’t have a least favorite. I really like living away from home. It’s hard not to see my parents on a daily basis, my friends on a daily basis — that’s probably the hardest thing.

**6. What is the weirdest thing you have with you right now?**I have a lifeguarding whistle, that goes everywhere with me though. I’m a lifeguard, it’s kind of a habit.

7. What is one of your pet peeves?
I can’t write without pen caps on the pen. I don’t know, it’s weird.

8. What is the hardest thing to get used to being at school?
Having to walk outside to get food early in the morning.

9. Are you involved with any organizations or clubs on campus?
I was in the fencing club for a while. And I’m in the Learn to Swim program — I teach swim lessons, and I’m a lifeguard and an innertube water polo referee. I do that at Jenison (Field House).

10. What is the most important or interesting thing you forgot when you moved in?
A hair dryer.

11. What’s your Internet home page?
AOL.com. That’s what my e-mail is on.

12. What is the most unexpected difference between high school and college?
The time spent workload wise, and free time during the week. I have more free time during the day, as opposed to going to school for hours on end.

13. In what ways have you grown or changed since August?
I’ve become more independent. Just less time thinking about people at home, I’ve grown to like it here.

14. What do you order to drink when you go to Starbucks?
I usually get a hot chocolate, I’m not much of a coffee drinker.

15. What’s your favorite board game?
Clue. Definitely.
