Freshmen fifteen Q's

Daniel Luscombe

College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or less, at a new face on campus and his perspective on his new frontier.

Meet Daniel Luscombe

1. Where are you from?

Beverly Hills, Mich.

2. Where are you living this year?

Snyder Hall

3. What is you major?

I’m undecided. I’m leaning toward urban (and regional) planning.

4. What were some of the most unexpected things about the transition from high school to college?

Living with so many people within five years of my age. It’s kind of like a strange vacuum of all young people. And I don’t really like living in the dorms. There’s a lack of privacy. I remember watching the movie “Midnight Express” — it’s about a Turkish prison — (it is) a lot like my dorm.

5. What is your favorite place on campus?

The Snyder-Phillips cafeteria. We have the best cafeteria on campus, so it’s tasty.

6. What is your favorite song right now?

I like the song “Little Brother” by Grizzly Bear.

7. What is your favorite class?

I like COM 225 (An Intro to Interpersonal Communication) because I feel like the things I learn are really applicable on a day-to-day basis.

8. What has been your favorite experience so far at MSU?

The first weekend at MSU was really fun. My friends were really excited to be here and it was kind of infectious being around them. They were so giddy before we had real classes or anything, just hanging out.

9. If your life was a movie, who would play you?

I’d pick Jim from “The Office,” (John Krasinski). He’s really funny.

10. What do you do in your spare time?

I exercise and I do some art projects. I made a lamp out of an insulator from an old-timey power line. I’m going to make a whole bunch of them. It’s going to pay for tuition. People collect them. It’ll be great.

11. What is your Internet home page?

It might as well be Facebook.com, but it’s Apple.com.

12. What is your favorite Facebook application?

I like Graffiti wall. Everyone likes Graffiti wall.

13. Where are you living next year?

Snyder-Phillips. No one would move out with me, so I’m stuck here.

14. What are your spring break plans?

Working in construction and fish sales at JD’s Seafood Express in Eastern Market (Detroit).

15. How about a joke?

What kind of animal don’t you play cards with? A cheat-ah.
