Freshman fifteen Q's

Jonathan Friedman

College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time.

The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or fewer, at a new face on campus and his perspective on his new frontier.

Meet Johnathan Friedman

1. What’s your major?
I’m James Madison: political theory and constitutional democracy.

2. What has been your favorite experience at MSU so far?
I don’t know if I can limit it to one experience. I got involved with College Republicans very early on campus and I ended up going on a lot of trips with them so far this year, so really just the opportunity to choose.

3. What’s your favorite spot on MSU’s campus?
I’d have to say Spartan Stadium, there’s no question about it. Nothing better than Big Ten football.

4. Name your top five favorite songs right now.
“Hey There Delilah” by the Plain White T’s, “The Adventure” by Angels & Airwaves, “Low” by Flo Rida and T-Pain, “Apologize” by Timbaland and “Distraction” also by Angels & Airwaves.

5. What movie best describes your life and why?
“The Pursuit of Happyness.” I just feel like some of the hardships I’ve gone through in my own life have been duplicated in that movie, and the success seems endless right now.

6. What is your least favorite thing about living away from home? Limited interaction with family.

7. What has been the hardest thing to get used to at school? The different ideas that professors give you in terms of how you should be doing your work, and the way it should be done, because every professor demands something different.

8. Are you involved with any organizations on campus? Which ones? Yes, College Republicans, Students for Romney, Case Hall Government, Case Black Caucus and newly coming to Michigan State — I’m actually helping develop the program – Intercollegiate Studies Institute will be offering materials on campus now.

9. Why did you decide to come to MSU?
The main reason was that, after weighing all the pros and cons against each other, Michigan State offered an environment where 75 percent of the people I grew up with were coming here. And that atmosphere where I could have the small education with the Big Ten atmosphere, along with the people I grew up with, who I felt comfortable with.10. What’s your Internet home page? It’s just the Google home page thing – I use the search engine a lot. I seem to find myself going there more than anywhere else.

11. In what ways do you think you’ve grown and changed since last August?
Even though independence was a big key in my personality before coming to college, I have had to manage so many more different things since I came here. Everything that the working world faces and challenges you with in terms of bills, different tasks that you have to complete on your own, effective time management.

12. What is your favorite board game?
Monopoly.
