The upcoming construction on Chandler Road has been very poorly planned. Essentially, the project will cut off the large student population living in the Northern Tier from the rest of the community. It is bad enough living three miles away from campus and dealing with traffic to get to and from class without having to go an extra mile or two out of the way. It seems to me that the city of East Lansing has spurned the student community and disregarded the potential hardships we now face under the shadow of the looming construction. Without the students, this city would be nothing, but the city often works against our interests. It would have been nice if someone had asked the residents of the Northern Tier their opinions and feelings about the project. I would wager that many, certainly including myself, would rather deal with Chandler Road as it is now than be impeded by the construction. At the very least, those responsible for the planning of this project owe an apology to the residents who will be affected.
