Izzone not better, reason for smaller hawk's nest

I was one of the 100 Izzone members who made the trip to Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday. Yes, these 100 Izzone members brought it strong and appeared to have really motivated the Spartan players before the game. Unfortunately, this didn’t translate to performance on the court.

Joey Nowak’s article, MSU fans show up the Hawk’s Nest in Iowa (SN 1/14), wrongly criticizes Iowa’s student section, the Hawk’s Nest. He fails to point out that Iowa students are home on winter break and do not have class until Jan. 22, a full 10 days from when the game took place. When MSU has winter break, there is not even a small section designated for students — note to athletics: Please work on this.

I would like to give that small group of Iowa students credit for showing up at the game on Saturday and helping their Hawkeyes beat the No. 6 team in the nation. They rightfully stormed the court after the win. While their students were in great joy, the Spartan faithful were in utter disappointment.

While speaking with my dad after the game, he said, “Coach Izzo should write an apology to those 100 Izzone members who spent the money and traveled all the way to Iowa just to see that poor performance.”
