Turnovers lead to Spartans' demise

December 2, 2007

Old Dominion continued its winning streak against Big Ten teams Sunday after it defeated the No. 20 MSU women’s basketball team.

Despite an 11-point lead right out of the gate, the Lady Monarchs (6-2) handed the Spartans (6-2) their second loss of the season with a score of 79-73.

This victory against the Spartans comes after two upsets against Big Ten contenders Purdue and Penn State.

The Spartans continued their nagging trend of committing turnovers. This 22-turnover game marks the Spartans third game this season with more than 20 turnovers.

Old Dominion scored 27 points off the MSU turnovers while the Spartans only turned in 10 points from the 16 turnovers they forced.

Freshman guard Brittney Thomas racked up 12 of the Spartan’s 22 turnovers.

Senior guard Courtney Davidson led the Spartans in scoring with 17 points. Freshman forward Kalisha Keane was right behind Davidson, putting away six buckets inside the paint, two 3-pointers and a free throw for 15 points.

The Spartans will return to the hardwood at 2 p.m. Saturday at Indiana State.
