Florida's Tebow claims Heisman

December 8, 2007

Florida’s sophomore quarterback Tim Tebow became the first underclassman ever awarded the Heisman Trophy in college football history on Saturday night.

Tebow, who had 29 touchdown passes and 22 rushing touchdowns in the regular season, beat out last year’s runner-up, Arkansas junior running back Darren McFadden.

McFadden finished second in voting again this year and other finalists Hawaii senior quarterback Colt Brennan and Mizzou senior quarterback Chase Daniel finished third and fourth, respectively.

Tebow became the third Gator to win the trophy, joining Steve Spurrier (1966) and Danny Wuerffel (1996).

Tebow and the No. 12 ranked Gators face off against Michigan in the Capital One bowl in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 1.
