City lost opportunity to set example for state environment

I think it’s safe to say that the world as a whole has come to the consensus that pollution is a bad thing. With that being said, could someone please explain to me how it was one of the reasons the East Lansing City Council unanimously rejected Meijer’s proposed green gas station? Green building is not a trend, nor is it a cheap tactic for press. Green building is the future. Down the road, receiving a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification won’t be a thing of prestige, but rather an obligation. Michigan is one of the last states to get on the sustainable development bandwagon, and our city passed up an opportunity to be an important player in setting an example for the rest of the state.
