SN columnist usually gets it right, missed 'lifeboat' this time

Eric Gregory’s columns are my favorite part of The State News. He upholds the university tradition of intellectual creativity by writing thought-provoking pieces. When I read Gregory’s most recent article, Principles of the middle ground (SN 11/15), I almost thought “Way to go Gregory, you did it again.” But when I read further, my thoughts changed to “Ugh, he picked the wrong candidate.”

Sen. Barack Obama should not be overlooked when considering the need to appeal to the center. Obama’s grassroots organizational meetings are filled with campaign virgins and card-carrying members of both major parties. He not only has his opponents worried and his supporters excited, but he also has the ability to create sparks with people who have never even voted.

Obama is the candidate with universal appeal, the candidate who inspires the constituency and the candidate who will be able to make the most bipartisan efforts as president. Attend one grassroots meeting and you will easily get the picture.

I urge you to look into his policy ideas at www.barackobama.com, and attend one of MSU Students for Barack Obama’s meetings. While Gregory produces great material, he missed the lifeboat on this one.
