Jones scores freshman accolades

November 29, 2007

Freshman linebacker Greg Jones, whose 73 tackles led the MSU football team and all Big Ten freshmen in the regular season, was named first-team Freshman All-American by Scout.com and Rivals.com.

“Greg is a big-play guy who plays with a tremendous amount of effort,” head coach Mark Dantonio said in an official statement. “He’s an instinctive player who seeks contact.”

The Cincinnati native played in all 12 games, while notching six straight starts. Jones’ best performance came against Ohio State, where he recorded a season-high 14 tackles.
