Hailing from the small town of McBain, Mich., Jessica Stroud, 21, was only 12 years old when she decided she wanted to be a part of the rodeo life.
“I saw a little girl barrel racing, and I thought if she can do it, I can do it, too,” Stroud said. “Since then, it’s been my whole life.”
Stroud was crowned the MSU Rodeo Queen in February and has used her title as a way to teach others about her passion for rodeo.
With only one more year at MSU to go, Stroud has plans to follow a different path than most students.
“I hope to compete in rodeo professionally,” Stroud said. “I’m holding off on the standard career, and I’m going to follow my rodeo career.”
