Freshmen fifteen Q's

College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or less, at a new face on campus and their perspective on their new frontier.

Meet Kylie Jusick

1. Where are you from?

Jackson, Mich.

2. How does it feel to be nearing the end of your first semester?

I’m ready for it to be over. It was a long first semester just getting adjusted and everything. I’m excited for next semester just because I’ve been through one and now I’m used to it.

3. How was your first round of classes?

I actually was anticipating the adjustment that I needed to do for school, and I made this semester pretty easy. It wasn’t that difficult. I just did some required classes and a few classes I enjoy doing.

4. Did you meet a lot of friends this semester?

Everyone that I’ve hung out with so far hasn’t been from my high school, so yeah.

5. Did you go in blind with your roommate?

Yeah, I did. We get along pretty well in the room. We don’t hang out that much outside the room, but in the room, it’s a good situation.

6. What were some of the things you remember most from the semester?

All the football games, those were pretty exciting. I had season tickets before my freshman year, but just being in the student section, you can’t replace that.

7. How many exams do you have in the upcoming weeks?

I only have one exam during exam week, but I do have more exams in my other classes — they’re just not cumulative. I’m done the first day of exam week.

8. Are you anticipating the extended winter break?

I just hope that I can find some work to do because I have to make money for next semester.

9. How have you adjusted to the weather as it’s gotten colder?

It is a lot harder to get to class and go out into the cold, but I’m from Jackson, and it’s 45 minutes away, so I’m used to it.

10. How’s your schedule next semester?

I have all 8 a.m. classes next semester, so it’s going to be tough. I’m taking a lot more credits next semester too.

11. Are your grades shaping up the way you wanted to?

One of my classes was really tough in the beginning, but I think I figured out how to study for it.

12. Were you in a relationship before MSU, and how has that worked out?

I’ve been in a relationship all through high school, and I’m still with the same guy, but we go to different schools.

13. Is it hard having a long distance relationship?

It is, and he plays basketball at his school, so he’s real busy. And I don’t have a car.

14. How has your money situation changed over the year?

I’m not working this semester, so it’s been real tough. I just can’t go get what I need — I have to budget my spending.

15. Are you looking for a job next semester?

Yeah. This semester my schedule is kind of weird. I have a lot of gaps in my schedule. But next semester, I’m going to look for a job. I’d like to work on campus so I don’t have to worry about transportation.
