Comley wants smarter play out of No. 5 Spartans

The Spartans need to play smarter, not harder.

That was the message delivered by ice hockey head coach Rick Comley at his weekly press conference Tuesday following two tough home losses to Miami (Ohio) over the weekend.

“It’s always a combination of working hard and playing smart, and we’re just so sloppy with the puck right now,” Comley said. “We turn it over, and we don’t play in the offensive zone long enough.”

Miami made the Spartans pay, turning mental mistakes into easy scoring chances.

“I think when you play a good team like Miami, those get exposed,” Comley said. “Perhaps we got away with (it) for three or four weeks
