Impossible to judge a situation without first experiencing it

In response to Nate Sherman’s statements in Abortion trumps animal cruelty (SN 8/29) having to do with those “many married couples (that) can’t have children,” What about the millions of kids growing up in orphanages and foster care? He says these women who made these mistakes should consider adoption, but what about considering the fact that no one has the right to bring another unloved child into this world?

Also, Sherman continuously refers to fetuses as “baby (boys) and (girls)” and the victims of baby killers. Sorry to burst your bubble, sir, but you’re wrong. I don’t know about you, but I had the pleasure of learning about reproduction in sixth grade health class and a bunch of cells going through mitosis does not constitute a child. These fetuses have not breathed a breath or even opened their eyes. Their abortion is not murder but instead the prevention of a life — as simple as the use of a condom or the swallowing of a birth control pill.

So, Mr. Sherman, I write this asking you to keep your facts straight and use your journalism skills (or lack thereof) for reporting instead of preaching. As a man in college, a young, scared pregnant woman with nowhere to turn is not going to look at you for an opinion, so don’t you dare look at her with judgment.
