I, like many others, participated in the Izzone campout this past weekend. I, like many others, watched our football team play a great game against a very good Wisconsin football team. I, like many others, became depressed following that game because I knew that we could’ve won. I, like many others, welcomed our football team back from the Wisconsin game. The eyes of the players and coaches said everything that needed to be said: “We are sad that we lost, but we are overjoyed that you love us.” It was a great moment in MSU history because we really did “become one” with our football team. I have no fear that these Spartans will collapse like our past heroes. I don’t think that anyone can say that they won’t play their hearts out again on every Saturday from now until Nov. 17.

In the mass of students there were cheers, chants and talk about our team and the fact that this Tom Izzo-sponsored gathering could easily turn into a riot. Thankfully, it did not. Now, we can say honestly that we’ve moved past the burned couches and tear gas in Cedar Village that occurred less than a decade ago. We have moved into an era where this campus and these students can act like the adults they are instead of the adults they will be. So be proud Spartans, because both the team and the students are doing things the right way.
