10:45 p.m.: Oh, boy, it’s the Emmys. Usually not something to get particularly jazzed about, but this year might actually be interesting. Will “The Sopranos” be showered in praise and trophies for their last season? Will “Weeds” get the respect it deserves?
The show opened with a mildly amusing song-and-dance routine from “Family Guy” which served not only to make safe jokes about the shows being honored, but also managed to stroke the ego of Seth MacFarlane and remind us how mediocre “Family Guy” has become. The general feeling of the bit was best summed up by Jeremy Piven looking like someone had just given him an acid suppository.
