Lansing police release name of murder suspect

August 31, 2007

Matthew Emmanuel Macon

Lansing police have identified 27-year-old Matthew Emmanuel Macon as the man they believe is responsible for five recent homicides and one assault.

Lansing police Chief Mark Alley said he expects Macon to be arraigned later Friday for the murder of Sandra Eichorn, who was found dead in her Lansing home Monday, and the assault of a 56-year-old Lansing woman Tuesday.

Alley said the department will seek homicide charges against Macon for the four other homicides, which began July 26.

“In the next week, we plan to present all six of these cases to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office,” he said.

Alley said the suspect was on parole after spending time in prison. He also is a registered sex offender, Alley said.

Lansing police, in conjunction with Michigan state police and the FBI, are investigating whether there is a connection between Macon and a series of 2003 sexual assaults.
