1. Where are you from?

Perry, Mich.

2. Where are you living this year?

I rented a house. My home address is still my parents’ and technically I’m not moved out of my house.

3. What is your major and why did you choose it?

Human biology. I want to go into nursing with a specialization in oncology.

4. How was your first Welcome Week?

It was kind of crazy, because there were so many people and so many cars. It was cool to get to meet all the different people. Everybody was so friendly that week.

5. What was the strangest thing you saw during Welcome Week?

One of the fraternities was rushing and they had a guy dressed up in a penguin suit. A lot of the sororities and fraternities rushing were pretty crazy.

6. Have your classes been tough to find?

This is the first one I’ve found (MTH 103) but I’ve come to find out they’re all back and forth across campus. I’m going to have to come all the way through North Kedzie and then come back here (to Wilson Hall).

7. Will the size of the campus be an issue with you, and how will you be getting to class?

I’m bussing. It’s not going to be an issue, but it’s going to be difficult to deal with at times. With some classes, I only have 20 minutes to get to the next one.

8. How’s the food in the on campus?

I do have a meal plan, even though I live off campus, and the food’s actually not bad. A lot of people told me it was going to be super bad and it’s really not.

9. How do you think classes will be for you this year?

I took a class at Lansing Community College last year, but not from State, and I don’t really know what to expect yet. My first one is in an auditorium so I’m assuming it’s going be a ton of people.

10. What’s been the biggest change so far?

Having to pay my own rent and buy my own food, and suddenly I don’t have any money at all anymore. College is my new weight-loss plan.

11. Do you miss your old friends and family?

Yeah, when I walk into a class, I don’t recognize anyone I know so when I have good news I don’t have anybody to run over and tell. I’ve met a couple of people that are really cool. My roommates from orientation are super cool and we’ve kept in contact.

12. Do you know campus or need a map?

I do have a little map, but I haven’t had to use it very much because Perry is only a half an hour away and my mom works on campus at Giltner Hall.

13. What are your biggest concerns adjusting to college life from high school?

Perry was such a small town that I was afraid when I got here people were going to be like — well, I pictured New York City and I thought people were going to be mean and stuck-up. But I haven’t met anybody who is stuck-up yet.

14. Is it going to be difficult to adjust to not having a set schedule every day, like in high school?

Yeah, it’s especially going to be difficult having a job because suddenly my real life is super screwed up.

15. How will you stay active this year?

Well, I think I’m going to join a Christian group around here. I guess I’ll just do whatever I can find that looks fun and just try it out.
