We did it again - another final four for MSU.
Students and alumni can shout "Go green, go white," and be proud, flaunting our achievement in our competitors' faces and boast that we have one of the four remaining teams, er, mascots, standing.
It's true.
Sparty is taking on a new medium - the Internet, with the help of some dedicated fans.
Voters elected Sparty to the final four of the Most Dominant College Mascot on Earth tournament. The contest can be found at www.cbs.sportsline.com.
As a No. 1 seed, Sparty squeaked past the Wyoming Cowboy.
On his way to the final four, Sparty defeated the Providence Friar, outwitted the Purdue Boilermaker, handed it to the U.S. Army Black Knight and outmuscled the Wyoming Cowboy. Sparty eked out that last victory 50.8 percent to 49.2 percent.
Now, Sparty takes on another fierce competitor, Iowa State's Cy the Cyclone.
Arkansas Razorback
The only other No. 1 seed to come through the competition is the Arkansas Razorback, also known as Big Red. He pushed his way through the land animals region, hogging enough votes to reach the final four.
Big Red defeated the Boston Terrier and the Campbell Fighting Camel, but the South Florida Bull and the Colorado Buffalo gave him a run for his feed. Next up for the Razorback: The Brigham Young Cougar, a No. 8 seed.
Iowa State's Cy
Cy, Iowa State's half-cardinal, half-cyclone mascot, is hopefully going to be Sparty's next victim as they face off in the final four of the Most Dominant College Mascot on Earth.
Cy, a No. 5 seed, made it to the final four after breezing through his region by defeating the St. Louis Billiken, Coastal Carolina Chanticleer and Drexel Dragon, before coming up against the Southern Utah Thunderbird. That matchup generated much more votes and was a close competition.
BYU Cougar
Representing the lowest seed in the final four, as the No. 8 seed, is the Brigham Young Cougar. He fiercely prowled through his competitors until he met up with the LSU Tiger for a catfight.
After achieving victory, the cougar engaged in a fierce battle with the New Mexico Lobo, where he demonstrated his growl and displayed his sharp teeth to win the regional final. Next up for the cougar: the Arkansas Razorback, a No. 1 seed.
