Staff members predict MSU win

Hockey reporter Zack Colman and sports editor Eric Fish predict how the Spartans will fare in the Frozen Four.

North Dakota vs. Boston College, 8 p.m. today

ZC: All a team needs to do to win the NCAA Championship is get hot, and the Eagles are the epitome of hot. In their 12-game winning streak, Boston College has scored three more goals per game than they've given up. And given North Dakota's goaltending, the Eagles will continue streaking into Saturday's championship game.

Boston College 5, North Dakota 3

EF: This game is definitely going to be a fun one to watch between two very good hockey teams. In the end, I think Boston College will be advancing to play for the national title because it has more of a well-rounded game. With the second-best scoring offense in Hockey East and the third-best scoring defense, the Eagles seem to be able to adapt to any style of play they wish.

Boston College 4, North Dakota 3

MSU vs. Maine, 4 p.m. today

ZC: With last year's heartbreaking loss fueling the Spartans, it'll be hard for Maine to deny them the victory. MSU should come out aggressive and physical to set the tone of the game.

They've learned their lesson from last year, and that's to play the entire 60 minutes. They'll do that, and with sound defensive play, they'll be one win away from becoming national champions.

MSU 4, Maine 2

EF: I'm throwing all the stats out the window on this one. I was there last year when MSU suffered that heart-wrenching loss, and it was the hardest game I've ever had to cover. I don't even know if this game is so much revenge as it is just proving the Spartans deserve to be where they are. I'm looking for a tight battle that's decided by a late third-period goal.

MSU 3, Maine 2

MSU vs. Boston College, 7 p.m. Saturday

ZC: I can't ignore the Homer instinct. The Spartans have been doubted all postseason, and they'll come into the final game with something to prove. MSU has been strong defensively in the postseason and already upset upper-echelon teams in Boston and Notre Dame. The championship game will be no different.

MSU 3, Boston College 2

EF: I love this team, and I love what they've done this season, but I just can't see the Spartans winning it all, and I hope to God I'm wrong. Boston College is playing too well and with too much confidence right now. They look like a team determined to win the whole thing. I really hope this prediction is the reverse jinx that gets the Spartans the win.

Boston College 3, MSU 2 (OT)
