A 48-year-old male university employee reported $5,400 worth of belongings stolen from his office in the Natural Resources Building between 11:30 a.m. and noon Wednesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The employee, who works in the forestry department, said he left for lunch and didn't lock the door to his office. He wasn't sure if he left the door open, but when he returned, the items were missing, McGlothian-Taylor said. Stolen equipment includes a $3,000 hypsometer used to measure land elevations, a $500 hypsometer, two $600 Dell laptops, a $200 Nikon digital camera and a $500 Nikon fisheye camera lens. There are no suspects.More than $3,000 worth of items were stolen from an office in the Communication Arts and Sciences Building on Wednesday, McGlothian-Taylor said. A 33-year-old female employee reported her $3,000 Gateway laptop, $150 Samsung flip cell phone stolen and $20 trifold wallet, which contained her identification and credit cards, from her office. She told police she had repeatedly left and came back to the office multiple times throughout the day, always shutting the door but not locking it, McGlothian-Taylor said. The employee said she noticed a man 40-50 years old who looked like a vagrant, who might be a suspect. She saw the man leaving the men's restroom and another employee said she saw the man in the building's lobby during the day. The incident is still under investigation.A 22-year-old female student retrieved her stolen laptop from a hallmate's visiting relative, but lost her iPod on Wednesday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student had left her Mason Hall dorm room between 12:20-12:30 a.m. to use the restroom. She left her door unlocked but shut, with her roommate sleeping inside. When she returned to the room, she found that her laptop was missing. Her roommate said she didn't see or hear anyone in the room, but when the student questioned her neighbors in the hall, she found one of the hallmate's visitors with her laptop. The Grand Ledge man was told to give the $3,000 Dell laptop back to the victim, and did so, but had left by the time the victim realized her $199 iPod nano was missing as well. The incident is still under investigation.Laura Misjak
