The No. 21 MSU gymnastics team captured the State of Michigan Classic during the weekend after posting a season-high team score of 196.350. It was the Spartans' first State of Michigan Classic win since 2003.
"I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome of tonight," MSU head coach Kathie Klages said in a written statement. "Our team focused very hard this week on getting the job done and training how we want to compete. We came out and showed that focus tonight."
No. 9 Michigan took second place, with Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan taking third and fourth place, respectively.
