MSU's winningest class prepares for Senior Day

February 23, 2007
Senior forward Katrina Grantham, left, high fives her teammates as MSU goes on a 25-5 run during the second half of the 54-52 victory on Feb. 11 against Purdue at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

The most successful class in the history of MSU women's basketball will celebrate its final home game Sunday at Breslin Center.

The Spartans are 100-29 during the tenure of guards Rene Haynes and Victoria Lucas-Perry and forwards Myisha Bannister and Katrina Grantham.

"The four of them have been quite a class," MSU head coach Joanne P. McCallie said. "It's a high-impact class, a very bright class if you look at their (grade-point averages) and just a real heady class. They're honest, vocal and fun."

The senior class will leave with an appearance in the 2005 national championship game and with the 2005 Big Ten regular-season title and tournament title on its résumé.

"This class is special," Lucas-Perry said. "We are one of the first classes where all four of us have stayed all four years. I think it speaks a lot about our dedication to the game and our dedication to the Spartan program."

"She went from being a small forward in high school to being a ball-handling guard at the Division-I level. … Talk about a role model, a leader."

"Rene has been heart and soul. … She has a great commitment, a great work ethic and a great family."
-McCallie on Rene Haynes

"Katrina is a lifelong Spartan. … As a senior that comes off the bench, she doesn't care. She just gets out there and plays when she gets her shot."
-McCallie on Katrina Grantham

"Myisha is a symbol of getting over adversity with her knee. She was playing fantastic basketball last year when she got injured."
