Iowa City, Iowa The MSU women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a dominating 83-63 win against Iowa on Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Spartans (13-4 overall, 4-1 Big Ten) posted their second-highest point total of the season, just shy of the 85 points they scored Nov. 24 against Indiana State.
"For us, it was a team effort. We played hard for pretty much 40 minutes and stayed focus," MSU head coach Joanne P. McCallie said.
MSU senior forward Myisha Bannister scored a career-high 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting. Bannister also set career highs in rebounds (seven), blocks (four), field goals (six), field goals attempted (six) and minutes (25). She made her first start of the season in place of sophomore forward Aisha Jefferson as McCallie went looking for someone to provide a spark.
Freshman center Allyssa DeHaan led five Spartans in double figures with 20 points, 16 of which came in the second half as MSU led by as many as 27 late in the game.
Senior guard Victoria Lucas-Perry scored 16 points, while Jefferson had 13 and senior guard Rene Haynes had 10.
Despite the win, the Spartans slid to No. 23 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday.
