An 18-year-old female student was assaulted Wednesday night as she walked home alone on the trail along the Red Cedar River near Owen Hall. The victim said she was walking alone at about 11 p.m. when three men walked past her, one of which yelled a derogatory comment at her, said MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor.The victim told police she confronted the man and the two exchanged words before she was closed-fist punched twice and knocked to the ground.McGlothian-Taylor said the victim stated she was kicked after she fell to the ground and two men walking with the suspect yelled for him to stop. The group then continued westbound toward Bogue Street. The victim reported the incident to police Monday, who noted the woman had a faint red mark under her left eye.McGlothian-Taylor said the area in which the incident occurred is not a problem area for police and the nickname "rape trail" is just an urban legend. The case is still under investigation.Maggie Lillis
