An attempted unarmed robbery against a 22-year-old student was foiled Monday afternoon when three witnesses noticed her assailant violently tugging on her backpack and purse at the intersection of Farm Lane and Service Road.The incident occurred at about 12:15 p.m. as the female student walked alone toward campus from Lot 89, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The victim said she noticed a man in his mid-20s walking down the sidewalk from a wooded area, who passed her.Moments later, the victim said she heard running behind her and felt a violent pull on her backpack and purse, McGlothian-Taylor said.The victim was able to keep hold of her belongings as three witnesses stopped to help her. The suspect ran back toward the wooded area and was last seen fleeing in a vehicle, McGlothian-Taylor said.The case is still being investigated.Maggie Lillis
