Police briefs 08/15/06

A 56-year-old male MSU employee is suspected of assaulting a 22-year-old male MSU student between 7:30-7:35 a.m. Friday at the MSU Surplus Store. The student was standing in line with several other people, and when the store opened, he went toward a desk with a for sale sign on it, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The employee then shoved the student into the desk, and the student hit his knee before falling to the floor, she said. When questioned by MSU police, the employee claimed the student pushed him out of the way with his body in order to reach the desk, McGlothian-Taylor said. After shoving the student, the employee took the sign from the desk and then to the counter, where he was informed that the desk was not for sale, she said. The student followed the man to the counter and tried to speak with him, but was punched in the stomach with a closed fist, McGlothian-Taylor said. After the second altercation, the employee proceeded to look at another desk in the store, she said. There were two witnesses who confirmed the scene. Police have contacted the employee, and the student is pressing charges, McGlothian-Taylor said.Lindsey Poisson
