The Clinical Center was evacuated after fire alarms were triggered by an electrical fire between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Monday on the third floor of the B-wing. East Lansing Fire Department Captain Troy Brya said an exit sign shorted out and caused the smell of smoke. Small short-outs are fairly common, although not always in an exit sign, he said. Staff and patients were let inside the building at about 4:20 p.m., but Brya said a fire crew would stay behind."They're going to follow up with the electrician and make sure the alarm is reset," he said.Clella Murvine, 59, went to see her doctor and said she didn't hear the alarm sounding."The nurse came in and told us the alarm was going off and told us where to go," the Holt resident said. "The nurse and staff got us out quickly."A Clinical Center staff member said if there were an actual fire and people were not permitted back into the building, patients would have to go home, and the university would have to notify staff as to when they could come back."We tell everyone to take their personal belongings in case they can't get back in," she said.Lindsey Poisson
