A 51-year-old male reported an air compressor on fire between 2:34 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. on May 16 at South Case Hall. "There were maintenance workers working in the lobby, and they smelled an odor," MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The smell came from a cabinet that held the compressor, and smoke filled the lobby when workers opened it, she said. The East Lansing Fire Department responded, but the person who reported the fire was able to put it out with an extinguisher. The damage costs are about $150.A 19-year-old male student reported fraud from a Community Choice Credit Union between 2:45 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. Friday. "The complainant received a phone call saying his credit was excellent and could have a $100 gift card for gas and a credit card with airline mileage," McGlothian-Taylor said. The complainant accepted the offer and gave his account number, but later called back to cancel. He called his own credit union and was told that it was not affiliated with Community Choice. He immediately canceled his checking account, McGlothian-Taylor said. "It's important for people to remember, unless they initiate the call, to beware," she said.A 22-year-old male student reported a glass window damaged between 3:40 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. on Friday at IM Sports-East. McGlothian-Taylor said the 2-foot by 3-foot window pane was damaged by a 20-year-old male student who "indicated (he was) upset after losing a basketball game and hit the window." The student was surprised he broke the window and suffered a laceration on his right hand. Damage to the window amounts to about $150.The MSU police canine unit assisted the Meridian Township Police Department in a search for an armed robbery suspect on May 22 at a Subway restaurant, 2160 Grand River Ave., in Okemos. The suspect entered the restaurant and demanded money, and the employee complied. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction. According to a press release from the Meridian Township Police Department, the suspect was a white male, about 5-foot-9 weighing about 160 to 165 pounds and was reportedly wearing dark baggy jeans, a forest green fleece jacket and a black baseball cap.Lindsey Poisson
