Take 5 to vote

2-day period, online voting makes it easy for busy students to cast their ballots on very important ASMSU, RHA issues

ASMSU and RHA want you to vote in their elections this week.

MSU's undergraduate student government and the Residence Halls Association are making it incredibly easy for students to vote for this year's student elections.

They can vote either today or Wednesday.

And it's online.

ASMSU plans on having laptop computers stationed around campus so students can vote between classes for candidates to represent different colleges, halls and on a proposed $3 tax increase.

Members of ASMSU say their tax increase, which would bring the ASMSU per-semester tax to $16.75, would help them continue and expand vital services.

It's clear our student government is trying to make voting as easy for students as possible.

All it needs is for you to make the effort.

Participation in ASMSU and RHA elections in the past has been pretty dismal. Many students claim they can't get to a computer in time to vote or are too busy.

By providing laptop computers around campus where students will be, ASMSU is taking away that excuse.

Voting for student government is different than voting in state and federal elections, which require you to go to a specific polling place.

It only takes a couple of minutes to get on a computer and vote. Voting in ASMSU's and RHA's elections helps determine how your money is spent.

The representatives you vote for from your college or hall will help determine what concerts, events and speakers come to campus.

They are part of two organizations that provide students with useful services and opportunities that are well-used.

Both groups do a lot, most of it with your money.

Shouldn't you be telling them how to spend it wisely?

If you want to support ASMSU and RHA and their work, then vote. If you don't think they should get more money and are unhappy with the work they're doing, then vote.

Either way, voting can let ASMSU and RHA know students care about what your money is being spent on.

It doesn't take long, and you don't have to go anywhere. Even the laziest among us can handle that.

ASMSU and RHA have worked hard to make it easy for students to vote. It's in your hands now.
