Four police cars responded to a call claiming a person with a handgun was spotted getting into a car on campus Tuesday evening, MSU police Lt. Alan Haller said. With guns drawn, officers stopped the suspicious car at about 6 p.m. in front of East Shaw Hall, but no weapon was located and no one was arrested, Haller said. The case is still under investigation.A 51-year-old university employee reported a window in a West Wilson Hall classroom broken by a potato shot from a potato gun, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. Two 19-year-old students are suspected of breaking the $100 window. A witness said there have been problems with items being catapulted at the metal grating of the Wilson cafeteria, but this is the first time a window has been broken, McGlothian-Taylor said. Officers made contact with one suspect, who denied any knowledge of the incident. The potato gun was found later that night by a mentor on the fifth floor. The case is still under investigation. A 21-year-old student reported being assaulted near IM Sports-West and Spartan Stadium while he was walking back to Case Hall at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, McGlothian-Taylor said. A group of people were walking in the same direction, and a male suspect from the group grabbed the student's jacket and shoved him. The student continued to walk toward Case Hall, and later the same suspect came up behind the student and knocked him to the ground, attempting to punch him in the face. The student was able to block the suspect's punches, and another person grabbed the suspect off the student. The student, who said he smelled alcohol on the suspect, learned the suspect's name from a Case Hall night receptionist. The case is still under investigation.A video and data projector valued at more than $4,770 was reported stolen from Anthony Hall between 5 p.m. Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Friday, McGlothian-Taylor said.A 30-year-old university employee reported a computer stolen from the basement of the Main Library between 7 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The 2005 Gateway monitor, hard drive, keyboard and mouse were valued at $1,200. The employee said she had locked the door to the room.A 35-year-old reported a $350 projector was stolen from a Wells Hall classroom between March 15 and Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said. There are no suspects and classrooms are left unlocked.A 19-year-old student reported a $150 television stolen from her West Akers room between 2 and 6 a.m. Saturday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student said she left the door unlocked while she was in bed sleeping. When her roommate returned at 6 a.m., the door was open and the 20-inch television was gone. Melissa Domsic
